We first acted for the RFU at Twickenham before 1990 when business assistance was given to assist the RFU in raising money from its estate. The subsequent Planning & Development advice resulted in a planning consent for a superstore in Mogden Lane which was sold and developed by Tesco. When the first revaluation since 1973 occurred in 1990 we appealed the assessment and took the appeal to the Valuation Tribunal and on to Lands Tribunal before reaching a result which was acceptable to all parties.

Careful rate payment management was undertaken during the subsequent changes to the Rating List while the redevelopment of the North followed by the East and finally the West Stands from their original steel frame and corrugated iron cladding to the magnificent stadium seating 75,000 people.

Twickenham is the shrine of English rugby and the RFU operate a continuous improvement programme which means constant monitoring of the rating assessment to obtain the optimum result during building works, the acquisition of new offices in Mogden Lane and the purchase of the allotments behind the North Stand. Prior discussions with the Valuation Officer before the 1995 and 2000 Lists came into force have been an important part of the process, and further discussions will take place for 2005 to ensure that, whether the Profits, Contractors or Comparative method of valuation is used, the resultant Rateable Value is the best for the RFU.
