Earlier this year, government consultation ended on the Future Homes Standard. The proposals were a leap closer to zero carbon; a 75-80% reduction of carbon on current building regulations by 2025. The consultation suggests that from 2025 new homes will not be connected to the gas grid. Instead, developers will need to use low carbon heating alternatives. In June 2019, parliament passed legislation requiring the government to reduce the UK’s net emissions of greenhouse gases by 100%, relative to 1990 levels, by 2050. Doing so would make the UK a net zero emitter.

On Thursday 26 November, we joined with Fuse Architects to host an hour-long, lunch & learn webinar, focused on the climate emergency and why net zero carbon is crucial for the future.

Our panel of experts, chaired by Jonathan Martin, Director of Inward Investment, Economic Growth and Housing Delivery at London Borough of Waltham Forest, shared their knowledge of what you need to know about building affordable net zero carbon homes; the conversations you'll need to have at Board level and with internal teams, and how much it will cost.
