Ian Cleghorn

Ian is an Associate Director in the Business Rates team and negotiates rating appeals on behalf of clients seeking to reduce their Rateable Value. He deals with properties predominantly in the south-east of England.

Ian joined the GL Hearn rating team in 1983 and currently specialises in rating matters across England. 

He has taken a lead role in agreeing and establishing appropriate levels of value for rating purposes for retail properties in various towns and cities over multiple rating lists.

He has also negotiated numerous office, warehouse and factory rating assessments, and has particular experience in dealing with local authority property rating assessments including schools, fire and police stations, and libraries.

Ian also works with the business rates healthcare team negotiating assessments on hospitals, health centres and doctors surgeries.

In addition to his rating valuation work, Ian has also had responsibility for coordinating floor area data capture work in GL Hearn. This data is used for lease agreement purposes or various other purposes where accurate and independent floor area data is required.

Ian has chaired and assisted on British Retail Consortium and Rating Surveyors Association committees in various parts of the country.
