Business Rates Relief and Exemptions

As part of our Rates Payment Management function we have a highly experienced team with one simple goal: to assist you in maximising business rates exemptions and reliefs wherever possible.

Some properties are completely exempt from business rates, such as agricultural land, places of public religious worship and property used for disabled persons etc.

There are, however, numerous reliefs available, many of which have to be applied for and which attract State Aid considerations. Given the myriad of differing reliefs that now apply separately in England, Wales and Scotland, having an expert team in place to handle such matters is essential and adds significant value for our clients.

To add to the complexity of the business rates system, many of the reliefs are also discretionary on the part of the Billing Authority to grant. Our team will help you negotiate the best path to make sure all appropriate reliefs are claimed, where necessary argued for and then received.

Business rates places a significant burden on business; it is therefore imperative that ratepayers are fully aware of the reliefs offered at both a national and local level. Our team has class leading expertise and strength in depth to ensure we mitigate those charges to the greatest extent. These include applying for revaluation or retail reliefs in England, new build relief in Scotland as well as nationally available charitable, small business or empty rates reliefs across all territories.

We are keen to offer our expert advice to ensure you do not miss out on any rate reliefs or exemptions you are rightfully due, so please get in touch.
