National property consultancy, GL Hearn, has bolstered its business rates team in London with the appointment of three new consultants.

Darren Haselhurst has joined as Business Rates Associate Director, and has extensive experience advising local and national private sector clients as well as public sector clients in respect of the 1990, 1995, 2005 and 2010 rating lists. Darren bolster the GL Hearn team, bringing with him expertise in consulting on a variety of properties including retail, industrial, and office, as well as public houses, hotels schools and colleges and local authority operated properties.

With over 30 years’ experience in the Valuation Office Agency, Ray Mitchell joins the team as Business Rates Referencing Manager. Ray brings a great deal of expertise in referencing and valuing a wide range of properties and is experienced in ensuring the successful delivery of business performance measures. Ray also has experience in the negotiation and settlement of rating appeals for the 2000 and 2005 rating list revaluations.

Last but not least, Chris Lunn joins GL Hearn as Business Rates Surveyor. Formerly at Fisher Hargreaves Proctor in Nottingham, Chris has experience across a wide range of disciplines and has advised clients on a range issues from providing CPO advice to the University of Nottingham to provide rating advice to retail, office and industrial occupiers. In his new role at GL Hearn in London, Chris will predominately be involved in providing business rates advice to the firm’s high street clients in two distinct areas that include the North London Boroughs of Islington and Hackney and the East Anglia regions including Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Suffolk.

On the new appointments, Andrew Hetherton, Business Rates Director for GL Hearn, commented: “At a time when a substantial and increasingly complex tax on owners and occupiers of commercial property is in effect, quality business rates management has never been so important. These new appointments will further strengthen our standing as one of the UK’s leading firms of business rates consultancy, ensuring that we are able to continue to negotiate financial savings that make a real difference to our client’s bottom lines.”
