For the fourth year in succession, teams of volunteers from GL Hearn in Manchester, Bristol and London donated their time to local good causes as part of Business in the Community’s Give and Gain Day, on Friday 16 May 2014.

The Manchester volunteers spent the day at Heaton Park supporting the warden in carrying out environmental work to maintain access and biodiversity in the wilder areas of the park. The team assisted in edging pathways and restoring and painting much-needed fencing.

The London team spent the day undertaking gardening work for Doddington Community Gardens; this involved carrying out general maintenance, planting, and building a new path at one of the charity’s established roof gardens, which is used by local residents.

In Bristol, a team from GL Hearn gathered at St Werburgh’s City Farm, and built a sheep shelter from scratch under the guidance of the Farm Manager. This has provided much needed shelter for the sheep that otherwise had no respite from the elements.

GL Hearn donated a total of 175 hours of time on 16 May to improving the green spaces in and around the cities where staff work.

Commenting on the day, Head of Marketing and Corporate Responsibility, Anne-Marie Kesselman, said: “We had the most glorious weather up and down the country which meant our teams could get a lot more done for our chosen projects.

“Business in the Community always provides inspiring ideas about how to give back to our local communities , all our volunteers gain something very special from the day.”
