GL Hearn today announced its plans for Give & Gain Day, next month’s national day of volunteering taking place on 15 May. The event, a celebration of employee volunteering is championed by Business in the Community, The Prince’s Responsible Business Network.

Give & Gain Day will see thousands of people from hundreds of companies volunteering on 15 May 2015. This will be GL Hearn’s fifth year of participation, with over 60 volunteers expected to take part, more than any other year.

Brian Sloggett, Managing Director at GL Hearn says:

“Give & Gain Day has grown to become one of the highlights in our business calendar. Our local community organisations and schools continue to benefit from the time given by GL Hearn’s business volunteers and we continue to gain from a day which brings our teams together in a different way and for a good cause.”

In 2015, GL Hearn’s volunteers will be working across several different regions in the UK.

In Cheltenham, 19 GL Hearn volunteers will be supporting County Community Projects (CCP), a local community group that focuses on helping families and young people from all backgrounds, especially those with complex needs. In addition to working on the organisation’s allotment, GL Hearn’s volunteers will take charge of wood staining and some general DIY on some of CCP’s outbuildings.

Meanwhile, in Bristol, eight GL Hearn volunteers will be helping to restore Blaise Castle to its former glory with some painting, and litter collection. The volunteers will paint the railings around the children’s playground and across the estate, paint signage, bins and any other areas required on the day.

GL Hearn’s Manchester office will be supporting the 394 Hostel Project in Manchester, part of the ‘No Second Night Out (NSNO) initiative, which aims to help people who are sleeping rough for the first time and find them an immediate alternative. As part of its services, the 394 Hostel Project provides access to a tranquil garden which 15 volunteers from GL Hearn together with its client Nu Gen will make more welcoming for residents.

GL Hearn’s London office will be taking a team of 20 volunteers to Oakland’s Secondary School in Bethnal Green to help in the school gardens, which provide a relaxing learning environment for the staff and students. This will involve the creation of a new garden area for the school’s special needs classes, as well as improving and maintaining its existing roof gardens.

In addition, meeting rooms in the London office were made available to Business in the Community during March and April for the Give & Gain Team Leader briefing sessions for all the London-based team Leaders.

Antonia Williams, Volunteering Broker at Business in the Community said:

“On behalf of the employee volunteering team, I want to say a huge thank you for the support GL Hearn has given us for Give & Gain Day 2015. The space and facilities provided for the briefings were fantastic and we really appreciate your help in ensuring a smooth run up to the big day. It has been great to get to know a business that really supports the campaign and I look forward to working with GL Hearn in the future.”
