For the second year running, GL Hearn sponsored and produced the Good Parks for London Report, compiled by Parks for London, the charity that is committed to safeguarding London’s parks and green spaces. As well as sponsoring the production of the report, GL Hearn’s planners Sam Dargue, James Bylina and Bethany Wells all provided analysis, while Senior Graphic Designer Kellie Laing designed the entire publication.

The report considers the approach that the London Boroughs are taking towards parks and green spaces, evaluating them against ten criteria: public satisfaction, awards for quality, health and wellbeing, sustainability, events, supporting nature, skills development, community partnerships, collaboration and strategic planning.

The report was published and launched on Wednesday 28 November at an event hosted by New London Architecture at The Building Centre. Guests included Parks for London staff and trustees, those who had contributed to the report, Heads of London Borough Parks Services, representatives from London Councils, the GLA, park trusts, Park Friends Groups, parks contractors and others with a vested interest in protecting the quality of London’s parks and green spaces.

During a relaxed evening of canapes and networking, important messages were relayed from several speakers about the importance of London’s parks and green spaces and how the report and its findings can help protect and improve them now and in the future. It comes at a time of continued cuts to Council budgets, huge uncertainty over Brexit and while London faces both a growing population and increasing environmental concerns around air quality.

Martin Kelly, Land Planning Director said: “It was a great pleasure to work alongside Parks for London and we’re proud to be associated with this wonderful initiative. The Good Parks for London Report 2018, is an important, well-assembled publication and we’re delighted to support the study with its analysis and design. We hope it will play a significant part in enhancing and protecting our parks and green spaces in London.”

Tony Leach, CEO of Parks for London said: ‘’We want to congratulate well performing Boroughs and support all that are struggling to provide an effective parks service; so, we hope Councillors and Council Chief Executives will take time to read the report, recognise the huge value that parks services provide and protect their funding.’’
