GL Hearn has restructured its main board of directors to deliver an ambitious growth plan aimed at leveraging its expertise in property development in the capital.

The UK property specialist has shown increases in turnover and strong profits through the recession, with the property market in London dominating the consultancy’s current and pipeline work. In 2014, over half of the firm’s total forecast income of £28m has been generated from London-based projects.

GL Hearn already has one of the largest multi-disciplinary property consultancy teams in the UK, and now plans to capitalise on its growing presence in the London market. The business is therefore putting in place an ambitious plan to become the leading property development consultancy in the capital and has made 20 new appointments over the last 12 months to bolster its London team alongside making some significant additions to its main board.

Mark Allatt, a marketing and business development specialist in the global professional services and London property development sectors, has been appointed Chairman of GL Hearn. Mark has held senior roles at KPMG, GVA and Deloitte and has been a non-executive director of GL Hearn for almost three years.

Shaun Andrews joins the main board with responsibility to deliver GL Hearn’s London strategy. Andrews previously spearheaded the firm’s drive into the blue-chip investor and developer sector and will now bring his 20 years of experience working in the London property arena to the fold as he assumes responsibility for driving the firm’s plans for London.

“To lead our London strategy is really exciting. London has become the number one global city over the last decade or so and the property development sector is hugely dynamic,” Andrews commented. “But the city also faces huge challenges, not least with respect to the housing crisis and providing the infrastructure necessary to sustain its global position.

“Our leading multi-disciplinary team at GL Hearn has a huge amount of experience in advising both the public and private sector and helping them deliver some of London’s most significant projects.”

GL Hearn will be building on a number of high-profile projects in the capital, such as the Nine Elms and New Covent Garden Market site which will see the regeneration of 57 acres along the Thames.

This experience gives the company a unique insight into the opportunities – and challenges of developing in London.

Andrews says, “The firm is already adding value and helping shape London’s future but there is much more we believe we can offer.

“For example, through our annual research on major planning applications across the whole of London, GL Hearn has led the debate on the need for a faster and more certain planning system.

“More recently, our data on tall buildings detailed their importance in the supply of new homes whilst setting aside more space for public use.”
