Former Tetley Brewery, Leeds

Client: Vastint UK
Location: Leeds
Discipline(s):

Vastint UK appointed GL Hearn to submit and secure planning permission for the redevelopment of the former Tetley Brewery in Leeds city centre.

The redevelopment of this 6.6-hectare site will provide up to 850 new homes, 85,000 sq. m of employment floor space, two hotels (up to 400 bedrooms), as well as commercial floor space including shops, cafés and restaurants. The centrepiece of the development will be a 2-hectare contribution to a City Park which will provide much needed open space in Leeds city centre as well as a new setting for The Tetley – an art deco contemporary arts centre which provides a physical reminder of the area’s brewing heritage dating back to 1822.

The site sits at the heart of Leeds South Bank - an emerging city quarter which aims to double the size of the city centre. Within a 10-minute walk from Leeds Station (one of the busiest in the country), the site’s accessibility will experience a step-change with the arrival of HS2.

Having secured outline planning permission for this first phase of development, proposals are now underway for a second phase to provide additional space for an extended City Park as well as more homes and commercial opportunities south of Crown Point Road.

GL Hearn has also been instructed to prepare detailed proposals for the first phase of development through the submission of a Reserved Matters application to be submitted to Leeds City Council in 2019.

The shared vision for the South Bank is to transform a former industrial site into an exciting new part of Leeds city centre. Our 8.5-hectare holding sits at the heart of the South Bank regeneration area, and we are committed to working in partnership with the city council and other partners to deliver a much-needed city park for everyone.
