Green light for 570-home scheme set to transform the former Lambeth hospital site in south London

07 October 2021

GL Hearn’s planning team secure a resolution to grant planning permission from Southwark Council’s planning committee for South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (SLaM).

The residential-led scheme will realise the redevelopment of part of the Maudsley Hospital Estate, providing 570 new homes (50% of which will be affordable) and a nursery facility.

Construction will commence in 2024, replacing a mostly two-storey complex of buildings built in the late 1990s, which is currently used as a mental health facility by the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust.

The approval is key to delivering world-leading adult and children’s mental health facilities, following the decision by the Trust to regenerate the site to raise funds for the relocation of the existing facilities to a new purpose-built centre at Maudsley Hospital in Denmark Hill. The new facilities will provide enhanced mental health services and improved patient care and healthcare services for the local community.

As lead planning consultant, the GL Hearn team provide town planning and landscape design services to development manager, F3GROUP, working on behalf of the Trust alongside lead architect, ESA Architecture, part of Capita Real Estate and Infrastructure.
